Other animals, too. Horses, for instance. Dogs and cats tend to try to pull
it off, but if you can get something to stay over their eyes, they're easier
to work with when they're scared.
Had a dog once, a collie, that decided he didn't want to come in now and
again. You'd call and call, and he'd be nowhere in sight even though you
knew he was in the yard somewhere. He'd "hide" behind the biggest tree he
could find. Just his head though. The rest of him would be hanging out in
plain sight. (I think that was probably the equivalent of a canine "chicken
moment.") Those were the only times that I found him to be less than
brilliant within the canine world -- smartest and best herding dog I ever
had. If we didn't have something for him to herd at the moment, he'd go to
the neighbors and herd their critters... Even leapt six feet straight up one
time to catch a pheasant in mid-air.
