Hi Jon,
I spent a bit of time on ancestry.co.uk searching under "first name Eliza" and "wife" and found on the Wales 1871 census:

Eliza Jone born c.1846 Stoey Somerset
John Jone born c. 1848 Nantyglo
Ann Jones born c. 1870 Abertillery

all living at: W. Harris Row Abertillery.

I think these might be your people. There is also a lodger, Dinah White from Bishop Sutton. Stowey is a village near Bishop Sutton, Somerset, and there is another lodger, James Franks, from Camily (must be Cameley?). All those villages are near each other.

there should be a family in the Aberystruth area in 1871, John Jones as
head, Eliza Jones (wife) and Jemima Ann Jones approx one year old, but so
far, I've found no trace at all.
any help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
