My grandmother's grandfather had a 3rd cousin, Malinda Loy, that
married 6 January 1853 (Guilford Co., NC) Elisha Smith (b. ca. 1822
Guilford Co., NC). I've found most of their descendants down to the
1930 census, plus what I've found in online death records. Apparently
there were two Malinda and Elisha Smiths living in Guilford Co. in
the same era. Malinda died after 1910 census and Elisha apparently
died between 1880-1900 census. The Guilford Co., NC death index gave
an Elisha Smith that died 24 February 1917, son of William Smith.
Checking the 1910 Guilford Co. census, I find that Elisha would have
to be an Elisha C. Smith, who was 55 that year. (Malinda's husband
Elisha was in 1850 census with "Barbary" Smith, his apparent widowed
mother so don't know who his father was. Usually I include names of
Loy "parent-in-laws" in my records.) There are also two Malinda
Smiths with death dates 24 February 1917 and 26 November 1917, both
with parents unknown. Does anyone know which of these would be
Malinda Loy? (Or, if someone had the death date of the Malinda Smith
that isn't Malinda Loy, then by process of elimination I'd know which
one was Malinda Loy!)
