The first place to look is in Cyndi's List, which is generally considered to be the very best indexed listing of genealogical
sites on the Web. Her site is now at
http://www.CyndisList.com/

When I last looked there were several subdivisions for the USA but also check Roots-L & RootsWeb and, if appropriate,
African-American and Native American links.
