Could his name be Edmund? In the 1891 Census (Swindon Wiltshire) there is a
69 yr old Edmund GRIFFITHS, retired builder, born Williton, living with his
36 yr old carpenter son (also looks like Edmund to me) born Cardiff, and his
family.

Just in case this is the correct gentleman -

From the BVRI 2 (LDS)
Edmund GRIFFITHS and Susannah HOWELL were married on the 27th May 1844 at St
Augustine the Less, Bristol. Susannah's father's name was John HOWELL

I cannot find this couple on Gordon Beavingtons 1851 Census for Bristol or
Somerset and so perhaps they had moved to Glamorgan by then.

From St Decumans Parish Registers
Edmund GRIFFITHS was baptised on the 6th Jan 1822 at Williton Chapel,
Williton, Somerset. He was the son of John (a labourer) and Jane. They lived
at Tower Hill, Stream, Williton. Known siblings were James, bap. 15 Sep 1816
(Father shown as a carpenter) and Ann, bap. 10 Jul 1814.

The following may be his parents marriage -

John GRIFFITHS of St Decumans (made mark) and Jane STADDON of St Decumans
(signed) were married on the 6th February 1814, after Banns were read. John
PIPPIN and George SULLY were witnesses.

Possible baptism of his father-

A John GRIFFITH son of John and Elizabeth was baptised at St Decumans on the
9th August 1785

And baptism of his mother?

A Jane STADDON was baptised on the 5th January 1781, daughter of John and
Mary STADDON

And Grandparents marriage?

John GRIFFITH of St Decumans (made mark) and Elizabeth ADDAMS of St Decumans
(made mark) were married on the 14th July 1782. John MORSE and William HOLE
were witnesses.

Best wishes
Sarah
