I checked the page, but the enumerators mark goes
right through the age of the wife. Her name is
definitely recorded as Eliza not Emma. However in the
1871 census she is recorded as Emma with a much
younger age [details sent in separate email] Could he
have married twice?

This does look like a likey suspect for your George
WINTER from
Gordon Beavington's 1851 census of Bristol. The age,
place of birth
and occupation rather match. His wife here seems to be
Eliza but she
does seem rather old for him or her name and age have
been hard to
read on the census. Maybe someone with the actual
pages could
check this for you to confirm.
