I remember this one -- if they were living on Vyse Avenue, or anywhere
else for that matter, I wouldn't bury them. I'd wait for them to die first.
At this point the Parkie comes over and says "David, don't be
abusing the out-of-towners", so since I opened my mouth I'd guess
that St. Raymond's is as good as any other, but point out that
in New York City we don't have town cemeteries. Factors would
be first the deceased's religion. Particularly for Jews the
deceased might have belonged to a burial society or sick & benevolent
society, often made up of immigrants from the same region, which
society would have owned a small section of a larger cemetery
and used it for its members. I have no idea which cemeteries
were active in 1915, but I have great-grandparents, died in
the early 1930s, buried in Baron DeHirsch, at the south end
of Staten Island, and grandparents buried in Bergen County
and in just over the line in Nassau.
