No new members this week, although I have had a couple of e-mail
CoA's (including Elizabeth's via the list, which has been fixed).

The Clyde Passenger Steamers list of Owners / Masters now extends to
1866 - see

Sorry, there was a missing / in both links in last weeks post, so
I'll also repeat the McPhun link ...

Nathan (Nate) Zipfel, ScotlandGenWeb Project Coordinator, came across

As we approach the festive season (Christmas is just 30 days away), we
also approach the high season for new (and repeat) computer viruses
and hoaxes.
As always 1) do not open unsolicited attachments no matter how
enticing they look.
2) use a virus protection program
3) keep the virus definitions for that program up to date
4) to avoid the unnecessary mailings that hoaxes create, DO NOT send
virus warnings direct to the list - forward any that are of concern to
the admin address After checking,
I will if necessary, forward a warning to the list.
Here are a couple of reminders ...
Windows users please note that
1) if you are running IE 5.0 or earlier, that is your PC does not have
the latest Microsoft IE patch installed, the latest version of
Badtrans attachment may run from the preview pane via an autorun HTML
code segment inserted in the covering e-mail. Two solutions: 1)
dispense with the use of the preview pane, 2) upgrade.
2) The hoax message advising the recipient to delete "SULFNBK.EXE" is
also doing the rounds again - do NOT delete this file - although oddly
named, it IS an essential part of the Windows operating system. Check
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html for details.
