No new subscribers this week, so as always, if you haven't already
contributed, we hope to hear from you soon.

Following an off list enquiry during the week - these are the
reference numbers with which to search the National Archives of
Scotland [NAS] site, for the availability of Buteshire Kirk Session
records ...

CumbraesCH2/80
KingarthCH2/219(assumed Bute)
Kilmory, ArranCH2/214
Rothesay, ButeCH2/890 (High)
CH2/891 (Gaelic)
CH2/892 (St John [former New Church])
North ButeCH2/947
Kilbride, Arran CH2/1043
Lochranza (Arran)CH2/1063
Craigmore (Bute) CH2/1234
Whiting Bay (Arran)CH2/1579 (St Columba)

(Catogory CH2 = Records of Church of Scotland synods, presbyteries and
kirk sessions 1569-1998)

Go to http://www.nas.gov.uk/catalogues/default.asp - follow the OPAC
link, select search from the top bar on the next page. Now at the
search form, enter the reference number in the second field and
'Search'. Not quite finished - the resultant page has a 'Detail' link
which when followed shows what is available and for what years. Where
there are multiple records - it's just a matter of cycling through the
details via the links at the top
Notes: 1depending on the time of day, this site can be quite slow,
even with broadband;
2some records have restricted Access Conditions - e.g. they may
only be available via the 'Virtual Volumes' system in the NAS Search
rooms, and
3 there will be details when these records are available
elsewhere in Scotland.

Thanks to Bill for the Arran 1841 data - if there was an error in the
Bute data last week, being down-under, I plead high temperatures
rather than wet weather as the excuse !!!
