Subject: [CA-CVGS-CIG] How to unsubscribe
Date: Mon, 30 Aug 1999 18:47:21 -0700

Before I give you specific instructions to help you leave the list, let me
tell you all that you are welcome here. Our maillist is still in the
starting blocks so to speak. I cannot ask you to correspond with a list
that has no value for you, so I won't. If you have a few minutes, and don't
mind sharing your thoughts, please feel free to drop a personal note to me
at to tell me about your decision to unsubscribe.

Thank you.

Now to the instructions:

Telling computers what to do is sometimes on a par with directing the
activities of a headstrong child. The common points are that both need to
be told what to do every step of the way, and they both can be
literal-minded to a point you wouldn't believe possible.

Our instruction states:

To remove yourself from this list simply send the one-word message
unsubscribe to

Here is what this instruction is asking you to do:

1. Put in the TO: line of your
message. Do not simply reply to another message on the list. If you do,
your reply will go right back to the message part of the list. Everyone
will see that you are having trouble unsubscribing from our list.

2. A one-word message is literally that. One word in the body of the
message. Remove everything else in the text. Remove the signature if you set
your e-mail to add one for you. The one word to use is unsubscribe. Check
to make sure you have spelled it correctly. Do not include the period. I
left quotes and other marks off the word unsubscribe on purpose to
underscore the fact using any of the extra marks would spoil your message.
I don't have them and neither should you.

3. Leave the subject blank. If your e-mail software will not work without
a subject, then put unsubscribe. Note that you still have to put in the
one-word message, whether you use a subject or not.

4. Send the message.

You will know that you have successfully removed yourself from the list when
you receive a confirmation from the maillist processor.

Albert Richardson, CVGS~CIG Chairman,

BTW: Send the CVGS~CIG list a subscribe message to join it again in the
future.
