Beverly Lambourne
Music teacher, 83
She was caring. Devoted. And an inspiration to all those she touched.
But above all else, Beverly Lambourne will be remembered for her love of
music.
Lambourne, who co-founded Lambourne Travel Services in 1946, died Monday of
congestive heart failure. She was 83.
Born in Maricopa, Lambourne attended schools in Bakersfield and graduated
from Kern County Union High School - which was later named Bakersfield High
School - in 1930. She went on to graduate from Occidental College in Los Angeles
in 1934 with a degree in music education.
For the years to follow, she would devote her life to teaching others about
music.
"Up until the day she died, she had lessons scheduled," said her daughter,
Patrice Lambourne.
Lambourne was the music director at Emerson Junior High School until she
retired in 1947 to help her husband, Charles Allan "Bud" Lambourne, with the
travel agency.
It was then, however, that she began teaching private cello lessons. all
total, she taught music for 62 years, Patrice said.
She fostered the talents of hundreds of music students, many of which went
on to perform with some of the world's most famed orchestras.
"Her first love was teaching her cello students," Patrice said. "She tried
to make them the best that she could."
Lambourne is survived by her husband, her daughter and three grandchildren,
Ashleigh, Graeme and Laurel.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran
church, 912 New Stine Road.

Beverly Stancliff Lambourne
Services: Sat., Feb. 1, 2 p.m.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Febraury 1, at 2:00 p.m. at St.
John's Lutheran church, 912 New Stine Raod for Beverly Stancliff Lambourne,
who passed away Monday, January 27, 1997.
Beverly Lambourne was born in Maricopa on February 14, 1913 and lived most
of her life in Bakersfield. she attended Bakersfield High School and
Occidental College, graduating in 1934. Returning to Bakersfield she began teaching in
the Bakersfield City School District. For thirteen years Beverly was
director of band and orchestra at Emerson Junior High. She retired to devote her
time to family and private cello instructions.
She joined the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra in 1934 and continued with the
Kern Philharmonic after World War II until she retired from performing in
1982.
After her family, cello teaching was her main love. she taught several
hundred students over a teaching career of sixty-two years, and many of these
students have continued on to musical careers over the entire country. she loved
her students and that love was returned to her in fine work and performance.
Her students have consistently won superior ratings in the annual music
festivals, both in solo and ensemble works. We are all very proud of her fine
record in the musical world of Bakersfield. She will be deeply missed.
Beverly is survived by her husband, C. A. "Bud" Lambourne; daughter Patrice
Lambourne; grandchildren Ashleigh, Graeme and Laurel Geddes; brother Floyd
Stancliff of Los Angeles; sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Marley Bentz of
Visalia; cousin Lorena Escola of Bakersfield.
In lieu of flowers she has requested that donation be made to the
Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra.
