Mayo, Elisha C, age 80, Sonoma, 8/26/1937 ???

This could be the right person though the age is off,
if he was 84 in 1920 he should show up much older in 1937.
And he should be in the 1930 census if he lived to 1937.

I can still look for obituary in Santa Rosa Press Democrat - please let me
know if you want me to . Sandra



Looking at the 1920 census it is strange that Jessica Vogel shows her
parents all being born in Illinois, but Elkanah C Mayo, age 84, shows
birthplace of Massachusetts. Are you sure this is her father?

I already had checked pre 1940 CADI for all E. Mayo listings - posted under
Vogel; maybe the marriage license will give the father's real name

Have you looked for the death of Jessa's father in the pre 1940 death index?
What was his last name?? If you find it you could send for a death
certificate. Sandra

I am beginning to think Rudolph changed his name to either R. Fred or Fred R
I find those entries in the censuses and the other information in them may
fit. I know there is a lot more to this than "may fit", and I will certainly
chase those details.

I see that I didn't put in a birth year for Rudolph which would have helped!
He was first married in 1894, and the 1900 census says born about 1871. I am
ordering the marriage cert. from Illinois and will try to piece things
together after that.

Jessa's father's name was mangled in all the censuses and other items I have
found so far: Elkanah, Elkma C., E.C., Elkaniah, Elkana, Alkana. He was born
about 1836 (in Vermont, Massachusetts or Maine ...). He was with her in the
1920 census in Los Angeles, age 84.

Will await the marriage cert from Illinois and see if that helps. Again, I
appreciate your input.
