Charley Albert Johnson
March 3, 1919 - July 15, 2003
Charley Albert Johnson, 84, of Bakersfield died Tuesday -, July 15, 2003 at
California Care Center. He was born March 13, 1919 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma,
to Henry I. and Ollie Johnson. Charley served in the U.S. Army during World
War II and moved to Bakersfield after the war where he has lived for over 50
years. He worked many of those years at the Giumarra Bros. packing shed in
Edison, and later retired as a groundskeeper for the County of Kern. Charley
will always be remembered for his friendliness and warm smile. He lived his life
for his family. He was always here for everyone. He touched each family
member in a special way with a love that will linger with everyone until we meet
him again.

He was preceded in death by his partner in life and partner in love for 62
years, Minnie Ellen (Mitchell) Johnson in 2000. He is survived by his brother,
Sam Johnson of Modesto; sister, Bertha Shewmake of Fresno; daughter, Wanda
Starkloff of Fresno; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Chuck Leisek of
Cathedral City; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Vicki Johnson of Bakersfield;
six grandchildren and five great-grandsons.

A special thanks to all who were there for Charley during the past several
months of his life.

Those who wish may pay their respects with viewing between 5:00 p.m. and
8:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 17, at Basham Funeral Care. A graveside service
will be held on Friday, July 18, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
