this is very informative.....I was surprised to see the chapters displayed
there....neat reading....I like to read more about our pioneers traveling
west.......on my husband's lines, he had some family lines that went west in
wagon trains, and one other line of 4 bros who came from Eng to Phil on ship
and then took ship around the Horn to CA. We are so fascinated with
wondering what made some take ship or wagon to go west......I (and my
husband said also) we personally would choose a wagon west on a wagon
train......but we both are land/earth people anyway. On ship it seems the
choices for survival may be less, for instance food-wise. At least if you
saw a rabbit on the trail, you had a good meal...what would you have on
ship, if they ran out of supplies? a rat? :-) and sickness, at least you
had your own wagon, and if one family got real sick, you may put them at end
of train.....but on ship, you all were piled in in the steerage, and not
much choice.......interesting, and we would like to know more about the
reasons some took wagon and some took ship to CA.....and thanks again for
the book reading......will have to look when have more spare time.....Happy
Trails, J in MT
