While rummaging through some Amador Memorabilia, I happened upon a
yellowed, crumbling copy of the AMADOR DISPATCH, dated Dec 31, 1937. It
states that it is published in Jackson and is in its seventy seventh
year of publication, is published at the heart of the Mother
Lode...scene of the world's deepest gold mines.
ITEM: Roland Beauchemin Killed Suddenly Near Stockton...Friends in the
County were shocked to learn of the sudden and tragic death of Roland P.
Beauchemin, which occurred on Tuesday. According to fellow workmen
Beauchemin was atop a 40 foot pole on the Thorn ton Road Power line,
when he came in contact with high voltage. He was a native of Calaveras
county, born at West Point. His age was 51 years, six months, and four
days. With his parents, the late Mr. & Mrs. Theodore J. Beauchemin, he
came to this county when a small boy, and attended public school in the
Milligan District. He had been in the employ of the P.G. & E for the
past seventeen years. Besides a widow, Mrs. Alameda Beauchemin of
Stockton, he is survived by a son and daughter, Robert and catherine
Beauchemin, three sisters, Mrs. Louise Beckwith of Stockton, Mrs. I.
Ward of Coarse Gold and Mrs. hazel Wilton of san Francisco, and one
brother Ulmont Beauchemin of Mexico. The remains will be brought to
Jackson, with services in the mortuary chapel of J.J. Daneri and Son.
Dr. Frank K. Baker will officiate the services. Interment will be t the
Jackson cemetery.
ITEM: Carlton Ball Married to Los Angeles Girl. ......have been told
of the marriage of Carlton A Ball formerly of this city, and Lucille
Elizabeth McClude of Los Angeles.
ITEM: John Humpel is Called by Death....Word has been received in this
county of the death of John Humpel who passed away at the Veteran's
Hospital at Livermore, Sunday Morning. Dec. 26th. he was Veteran of the
Spanish-American War, and was employed at the Argonaut Mine. He is to
be interred at the Presidio in San Francisco.
ITEM: Officers Closed "Red Houses" Here Tuesday...... Sherriff George
W. Lucot and Chief of Police Earl Garabini clamped the lid on the red
light district, when they ordered four houses of prostitution closed,
and their inmates to leave this city. Sheriff Lucot stated that he
followed the recommendations of the Grand Jury.
ITEM: Funeral Services for Cora Annie Scott to be held in
Sacramento....She was a native of Forest hill, Placer County, where she
was born forty six years ago. Her husband, Harry F. Scott was employed
by P G & E. She is survived by a daughter Adelle A Scott.......
ITEM: Family Reunion Held at Raggio Ranch........ The home of Mrs.
Katherine Raggio, at the Raggio ranch was the scene of a family reunion
on Christmas day....Those present included, Mr & Mrs. John Raggio, Mr. &
Mrs. Joe Raggio, and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Raggio, and two
children, Mr & Mrs. Jack Healey and family, Mr & Mrs. Zucconi, Misses
Ducie, Mary and Amelia Raggio. Mr & Mrs. Howard Smith and their two
daughters, Mr & Mrs. Al Raggio and daughters, Jim Raggio, Jack Onelia,
and Mrs. Katherine Raggio
ITEM: Former Amador Miner Died at Sacramento....Percy O. Pinneo passed
away at the home of his daughter, Miss catherine Pinneo at Sacramento.
The remains were taken to salt Lake City where the funeral was held at
Deseret Mortuary. Internment was at sandy, UT. Mr. Pinneo was a native
of boston, MA, where he was born 49 years ago, surviving relatives
include his wife, Helen Pinneo, a daughter catherine Pinneo, and a son
Harold Pinneo, all residents of Sacramento.
ITEM: NOTICE is hereby given that J C Nations intends to purchase that
certain business known as "Babes Place" in Drytown, California, owned by
Verne Ishmael.
ITEM: Rich Strike Has Been Made At The Ballard Mother Lode Mine.....A
notable discovery..$20 for ore, and $649 for sulphide concentrates. The
Ballard Mother Lode Mine has been worked for some time under the
direction of John Ratto, but the new discovery was mad by a group of
indians that had sought permission to prospect on the property. The
find was made at the 3000 foot level. The Ballard Mother Lode property
is situated about four miles north of Plymouth, in the Consumnes river
district, and is on the road from Plymouth to El Dorado County
