Hi all,
I sent this to the list last night, but I haven't seen it come through yet
so it must be taking the scenic route. Here is my second attempt at posting
this information, plus I've added info on a few more states since last
night. The comments below are taken from a series of messages recently
posted on another mailing list.

Texas has increased the number of years you have to wait to get a birth
record from 50 to 75 years. It took effect on September 1, 2003.
For Louisiana it is 100 years for birth, 50 years for death.
For a record of birth, Cook County, Illinois now requires a copy of one's
driver's license. This is a fairly new policy. They have a .pdf form they
ask you to use. The date of birth must be a minimum of 75 years ago to get
records for genealogical purposes.
In Missouri, birth records are available from 1910 on - but only to family.
You must specify the reason the birth record is needed and the relationship.
Oregon's restrictions are: birth records -- 100 years; death records -- 50
years.
In Rhode Island the birth and marriage records are closed to the general
public for 100 years and death records are closed for 50 years. A member of
the family may request a copy of these records for a fee of $15 each. The
records have been closed to the general public for at least the past 15
years.
Birth records in Florida are 100 years. All death records are available
except the cause of death, which is 50 years.
New York has a 100 year birth record rule.
Indiana currently is very open. Uncertified copies for genealogy purposes
can be easily obtained up to very recent ones. This summer a bill was
introduced in the house, HB 1543, that would have restricted access to birth
records for 100 years and death records for 75 years. The state genealogy
society worked very hard; the law was modified to 75 years for birth and 50
for death; still unacceptable. The bill failed in the vote, but can be
brought up again. IGS will be working to stop the bill again if it comes up.
