"Bransflakes" raises an interesting point about certified and uncertified
records. As we know, California and its counties now charge $11 for certified
copies of vital records. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get uncertified
copies for less than half that price? With a certified copy, we are paying
the state for fancy embossed paper with multicolor printing, and the labor
cost of certification. An uncertified copy is simply pulled out of a copy
machine. Why couldn't the state give us those for $4 or $5 or less? How do we
get the ball rolling on this? --Lee
