The following is a press release of the placer County Genealogical Society (PCGS), dated August 6, 2002.

AUBURN GENEALOGY CLUB TO MEET

The Placer County Genealogical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7PM, Thursday, August 22nd in the Beecher Room of the Auburn-Placer County Library, 350 Nevada Street in Auburn.

The program speaker will be Maria Brower, who has been involved in genealogical pursuits for 28 years. Her topic will be: “Railroad Research.”

Ms. Brower was the founder of the Nevada County Genealogical Society and is currently serving as Genealogical Director of the Nevada County Historical Society. She has taught Sierra College classes on genealogy and writes a monthly history column for The Union. Her interest in Railroad research began when she discovered that both of her grandfathers, her four great grandfathers, and a great-great grandfather worked for the railroad.

The Placer County Genealogical Society has a membership of over 200 persons and families that have genealogical interests. They hold their general meeting at the Auburn library site on the fourth Thursday of each month from 7-9PM, and feature a program speaker on various genealogical subjects. The group also offers two specialty day groups. One that studies various topics of member interest, which meets at the library on the first Tuesday of the month (except in July and August), and the other, the Family Tree Maker User Group, reviews genealogy computer program subjects, on the second Thursday of the month. The Society maintains a web site at www.pcgenes.com/pcgs.html
