Meeting Notice - Davis Genealogy Club Meets Monday

"Born Irish... Finding Records for Your Irish Born Ancestors" will be
the topic of discussion at the Davis Genealogy Club on Monday,
October 27th at 1:00 p.m. at the Davis Senior Center when the club
presents genealogist Cath Madden Trindle. Trindle will explain the
key importance of finding the county and even townland of your Irish
born ancestors and will suggest post immigration sources that might
provide the necessary information. She will also talk about Civil
registration, Church records, census and census substitutes. The
public is invited to attend the free presentation on this popular
subject and learn more about the club.

Numerous problems are known to frustrate those attempting to research
Irish records. The destruction of the Record Tower in Dublin Castle
in the early eighteenth century and other disasters combined to
nearly obliterate all Irish civil records, so church records are
highly important. Few primary source documents have been placed in
any central repository; most remain in the custody of the local
parish minister or priest, making identifying the parish of origin
critical to successful research.

Trindle earned a Certificate of European Research from BYU and
completed her Certificate in Genealogical Studies-Librarianship at
the National Institute of Genealogical Studies in 2007. Trindle's
main interests are Irish and Scottish research and storytelling.
Trindle is the author of several genealogical indexes, and she serves
both the California State Genealogical Alliance and the Federation of
Genealogical Societies.
