Leslie, and Listeners;
Thanks so much for responding. I wonder how we can find out. I was planning a
trip in the Fall. But in this case that would be a lost cause.
Is there anyone in Alameda/Oakland that can call and find out for sure just
what is the circumstance for getting Vital Records Transcripts, mostly DCT's.

I don't think it's even possible for people to see Alameda County DCT
info., unless the death was very recent. I was down at the recorder's
on Friday and while they had some older birth information I don't think
they have DC info computerized for the public yet before about 1995 or so.
Also, it looks like all pre-1960 certs are in storage, as I will have to
wait 2-3 business days to get the copies I ordered from 1934, 1942 and
1948. No idea if they have plans to scan/digitize these as they have
in Santa Clara County.
The one exception I'm aware of to this is pre-1903 deaths in Oakland - the
original death certificates are bound and stored in the Oakland History
Room.
