Potter, Germaine Jenkins

POTTER-Germaine Jenkins Potter, 77, of Arcadia, CA. died on May 7th, 2006 in her home, among loving family and hospice. She bravely fought pancreatic cancer for 18 months. Born May 16, 1928, in Oakland, CA, to JT Jenkins, of Dallas, and Germaine Lucie LeFranc Jenkins of Paris, France, she resided in San Francisco until 1943, when the family moved to Altadena. Following graduation from college, Germaine earned her teaching credential from University of Southern California. During her 25 year teaching career, Germaine served as a classroom teacher, district trainer and a Gifted and Talented program coordinator for Pasadena Unified School District. Professionally, Germaine developed and implemented a Junior Docent program at The Gamble House of Pasadena, where GATE students learned and taught the history of the Green and Green architectural styles to younger students on tour of the site. This program is nearing 25 years of operation and earned her an award from the City of Pasa!
dena. She also founded a Junior Docent Program at the Pasadena Historical Museum, and the Pasadena School District honored her with an award for Excellence in Leadership in May of 1993. In another GATE program, she published "More Than a Rose Parade", a compilation of student led oral histories of diverse Pasadena residents. Volunteer service also earned Germaine honors, including: Camp Fire Girls and an honorary life membership in PTA. She served many years in the Pasadena Assistance League and P.E.O. Chapter F, was a member of The Shakespeare Club Juniors of Pasadena, founded a neighborhood lunch group, and was an active member in her book club for more than 30 years. Recent contributions reflect Germaine's passion for gardening and care giving through service as a docent at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and as a Deacon at Arcadia Presbyterian Church. Germaine is survived by her beloved husband, James Warren Potter of Arcadia, her two daughters and their husbands: Lesl!

Potter) Gurley and husband Michael. She adored her four grandchildren, James (Dieter) and Elizabeth Mauerman, Christopher and Cameron Gurley. Her beloved brother also survives her, James Milton Jenkins and his wife, Judy, of San Dimas, as well as other much-loved cousins and dear friends-chosen relatives. A Memorial Service will be held at Arcadia Presbyterian Church on Saturday May 27th at 2:00 pm, located at First and Alice Streets in Arcad ia.
