Amador Dispatch, Vol. 11, No. 32, April 23, 1870:
FIRE. -- The dwelling house of Mr. JOHN KELLY, about a mile from town, was
destroyed by fire last Tuesday morning, together with all his household
furniture. In fact, we believe that nothing was saved, except the clothing the
family had on at the time. The fire caught in the roof from the stove-pipe,
during the temporary absence of the family, and before assistance could be had,
everything was lost. The loss, however, was partly covered by insurance.
____________
STAGE ROBBERY. -- The stage running from Ione City to Fiddletown, was stopped
last Tuesday by a couple of "road agents," near the former place, and Wells,
Fargo & Co.'s treasure box robbed of bout $2,000. A reward of $1,000 has been
offered for the arrest of the robbers and the recovery of the money, and the
Sheriff is out after them, but up to the present writing, he had not succeeded
in "corraling" them.
Since the above was in type, we learn that the robbers have been captured at
Mud Springs, El Dorado county. The money was also recovered.
____________
THE CONEY MINE. -- The Coney Mine, near town, which has been lying idle for
several months past, was sold last Wednesday to a San Francisco company, for
$22,000. It is supposed that the new proprietors will start the mill up again
shortly, when we shall expect livelier times in Jackson. We hope they will
"hurry up their cakes," as we are getting tired of dull times.
____________
STILL BURNING. -- The fire in the Amador mine at Sutter Creek was still
burning at last accounts, and we learn that the Eureka shaft (the one in which
the fire originated) is beginning to cave in. Hopes are entertained that the
fire will be extinguished before it reaches the timbers in the other shafts.
____________
