Amador Dispatch, Vol. 11, No. 50, August 27, 1870:

FATAL MINING ACCIDENT. -- A workman named LARRY GANNON was instantly
killed in the Eureka Mine, at Sutter Creek, last Tuesday, by falling
from a bucket down the shaft, a distance of over forty feet. Many of his
bones were broken and he was otherwise horribly bruised and mangled by
falling against the rocks and timbers in the shaft. Mr. G. was known as
an honest, hard-working man. He formerly lived in Pottsvill, Pa.

J. A. EAGON. -- We see that our friend JOHN A. EAGON has been
nominated for Supervisor by the democrats of the second district. He
will make a good Supervisor if elected, and there is but little room to
doubt his election over any man that may be put in the field by the
republicans.

THE "SHAMROCK." -- We are not an advocate of intemperance, but we
would advise those who do drink to always use the best they can find,
and if you want to know where a good article can be had, just read the
advertisement of the "Shamrock" saloon in another column, kept by Mr.
HUGH MEEHAN.

NEW DRUG STORE. -- Mr. ANTONIO ARATA, formerly proprietor of the
Miner's Drug Store in this place, is engaged in fitting up the old brick
building on Main street, next door to the Armory hall, for the purpose
of opening out a new stock of drugs, medicines, etc.

NEW BELL. -- The Catholic church in this place has been provided with
a new bell, which will hereafter add its musical notes to the general
warning to sinners to cease their evil ways.

THOS. BOYCE. -- We are pleased to see that Mr. THOS. BOYCE, the well
known and popular advertising agent of San Francisco, has bee nominated
by the democrats of that city for Supervisor of the 9th Ward. Mr. B. is
a man of good business qualifications, and his honesty is not even
doubted by his strongest political enemies. His election would give
universal satisfaction.

BALL AT VOTAW'S. -- We are requested to state that a social ball will
be given by Mr. B. T. VOTAW, at his well known ranch, near Fiddletown,
on Friday evening, September 9th. Persons who attend parties at this
place never fail to have a good time.

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS.
The butchers of Stockton will close their shops on Sunday, after
September 1st.
JAMES LICK has brought suit against the publishers of the San Jose
Mercury for libel in publishing a fictitious interview between Lick and
the reporter of that paper.
A rich silver lead has been struck near Tessajara Springs in Monterey
county, not far from Salinas.
A filthy beast named JOHN HAINES, who made an indecent assault on a
little girl in Oakland, has been sentenced to six months in the chain
gang.
A teamster known as "DEAF JACK," was accidentally killed at Reno a
few days since.
