Amador Dispatch, Vol. 12, No. 2, September 24, 1870:

TO DESTROY FLIES. -- To one pint of milk add a quarter pound of raw sugar, two
ounces of ground pepper; simmer them together eight or ten minutes, and place it
about in shall dishes. The flies attack it readily, and are soon suffocated. By
this method kitchens, etc., may be kept clear of flies all summer, without the
danger attending poison.
______________

JEWISH SERVICES. -- Religious services will be held by Congregation
Beth-Israel at Masonic Hall on New Years, September 26th and 27th, and the Date

______________

A MAN KILLED AT DRYTOWN. -- A shooting affray occurred at the Exchange Hotel
at Drytown, last Thursday morning, between Constable BAILY (sic) of Shingle
Springs and a couple of robbers named CHAS. JACKSON and WM. McCARTY, alias
McWILLIAMS, which resulted in McCarty being almost instantly killed. It appears
that the two men had been operating in their peculiar line lately in the vicinity
of Shingle Springs and the Constable had traced them to Drytown, and in
attempting to arrest them, was fired upon by McCarty, but luckily without effect,
whereupon the Constable immediately returned the fire, which resulted in the
killing of McCarty as above stated. Three shots apiece were exchanged during the
melee. The other robber (Jackson) was then arrested with the assistance of the
bystanders, and has been taken to Placerville to await the action of the law.
_____________

place, has been stationed in San Diego.

_____________

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS.
Judge MURRAY ROBINSON was thrown from a buggy the other day at Los Angeles,
and quite seriously injured.
A large hay warehouse near the steamboat landing in Napa, belonging to Mrs.
MILES, fell with a great crash on Tuesday last. It was nearly half filled with
baled hay.
San Francisquito Creek, San Mateo county, is dry in the vicinity of DENNIS
MARTIN's ranch--a circumstance not known to occur before since the settlement of
the county.
_____________

PERSIMMON TREES IN CALIFORNIA. -- The Sacramento Bee says there is a persimmon
tree, which has been in full bearing for several years at the northwest corner of
Q and Third Streets, Sacramento. It was planted by Col. SANDERS fourteen years
ago. The Grass Valley Union, in noticing the above, says: And there are several
trees at THRELKEIL's ranch, between Auburn and Rattlesnake Bar, Placer county.
Ten years ago or more, the largest tree there bore fruit. Now there is a large
orchard of trees, and plenty of the fruit. The persimmon is not only a fine
fruit, but the wood of the tree is the best out of which pulleys can be made.
We have already noticed the fact that Mr. JAMES LICK cultivates persimmons on
his ranch, near Santa Clara.
______________

MARRIED. -- Near Fiddletown, on the 17th of Sept., by E. R. Yates, J.P., Mr.
ORSEN Y. BRICE to Miss ELIZABETH PINDER, all of Amador County.
_____________

-- In Ione Valley, Sept. 12th, to ALLEN CRABTREE, a daughter.
-- In Ione City, Sept. 7th, to WILLIAM SUTHERLAND, a daughter.
_____________

That Concludes No. 2.

Probably, there will be no more Dispatches until tomorrow.
