This is the address of the data that was compiled by ten volunteers. Art
Michaelis created the data base and set up the whole operation. The ten
volunteers (of which I was one) rented microfilm through various libraries, not all in
California. We went to the library, perused the microfilm and I assume that
all libraries were like Fair Oaks Library in California, we were not allowed
to use recorders and had to write everything by hand as laptops weren't being
used then. Anyway, we wrote all births, marriages, divorces, deaths and
anything that we thought might be of interest. For example a fire in a brothel,
murders, parties, etc. We then came home and transcribed it into e-mail to
CAAMADOR subscribers. Lastly, we then posted it into the data base created by Art
Michaelis. We did the Amador Dispatch from 1863 to 1906. We started the
project in August of 1999. I was one of the last ones to finish (I had a full time
job, so only went to the library nights or weekends) in May 2000. Anyone
could access the data at no charge.
I don't what happened to it, but am going to try some things to see if there
is any way to access again.
