Good evening from Brisbane, Australia.
I'm searching for information or contacts in relation to the John Augustus
Votaw family of Fiddletown. John left USA for Australia in the early 1850s
and returned to California in 1869. I am with another, writing the history
of 300 Canadians and Americans who came to a particular part of Victoria,
Australia, during the gold rush years, and John was one of these men.
Most of our subjects have not made the history books of the district -
although they well deserve to - and it is our intention to rectify this
omission by recording their contribution to the development of an unsettled
part of the newly settled land of Australia. Rough and tough they had to be.
We follow them from birth, to Australia, to death wherever they settled.
John was one of those who returned to the land of his birth and settled in
Amador County, and I would dearly love to learn more of his life. Many
stayed in Australia for life.
I have the 1870 and 1880 Census and I have his death.
Any help or contact appreciated
Regards
Denise
