Myrtle Pittenger, Wallowa Co. Chieftain, dated Dec. 14, 1995.
A private graveside service was held Friday, Dec. 8, for longtime Paradise,
Calif. resident Myrtle Ellen Pittenger. She died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 1995,
in Crestwood Convalescent Hospital in Chico, Calif. She was 90 years of
age.
Mrs. Pittenger was bron Nov. 4, 1905, in Chico, the daughter of John William
and Susie Alma (Hutchins) Galpin. She attended local schools and went to
Chico Normal Training School to study dress making and designing. She moved
to the Bay Area in 1927.
In 1930, she married Albert Jospeh Holt, with whom she had two daughters.
The couple moved their family to Paradise in 1943. Her husband died in
1950.
In 1954 she married Raymond R. Pittenger. She owned and operated Holt's
Home on Rocky Lane. It was originally a guest home and later a rest home.
She had been a member of the Paradise Seventh-day Adventist church for
more than 50 years. She was a charter member of the Paradise Soroptimist
Club, a member of the Paradise Women's Improvement Club, a past member
of the Paradise Gem and Mineral Club and a volunteer for the Butte County
Hospice Organization.
She enjoyed all the goodness God placed on this earth, the light of a full
moon and soft falling snowflakes were just two of the many reasons she
loved life. Gardening, fishing, camping, rock hunting and reading were
her favorite hobbies.
Because of failing health, Mrs. Pittenger moved to Chico in 1993, to live
with her daughter Joan Holt Landis.
Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sondra and Kent Lozier
of Enterprise, and Dr. Fred and Joan Landis of Chico; four grandsons, Victors
Beers of Yellowstone National Park, Wy., Rick Beers and wife Toni of Oroville,
Calif., Christopher Lozier, Leonard Drayton and wife Amy of Enterprise,
Oregon; one granddaughter, Michelle Fisher and husband Bill of Joseph,
Oregon; great grandchildren, Dustin and Cody Beers of Oroville, Travis
and Jessi Fisher of Echo, Oregon, and Paige and Teah Drayton of Mesa, Ariz,
and nieces and nephews.
Rose Chapel Mortuary handled arrangements and inurnment was in the Paradise
Cemetery.
