Masonic services for longtime Chico businessman Robert L. Boyd, 76, of
Chico will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Van Hook Funeral Chapel.
He died Friday in a Paradise Hospital.
Boyd was the owner of Boyd's Menswear. He also served on the Chico Library
board and the Butte County Mosquito Abatement District board.
He was born July 16, 1912, in Glendale, where he attended school. He attended
the University of Nebraska where he was active in basketball, tennis and
swimming.
In 1938, he came to Chico and three years later opened Boyd's Menswear
at the corner of West Second Street and Broadway. In 1974, he opened a
luggage shop near the North Valley Plaza mall.
Boyd was a member of the Chico Masonic Lodge No 111; the Ben Ali Temple
of the Shrine, Sacramento; the Butte Council No. 50 Cryptic Masons; Chico
Shrine Club; Chico Commandery 12 Knights Templar; Chico Chapter No. 42
Royal Arch Masons; Chico High 12 Club; 20-30 Club; Chico Elks Lodge No.
423 BPOE; Greater Chico Chamber of Commerce; the Durham Rotary Club and
the SIRS No. 63.
Survivors include his wife, Metta of Chico; two daughters, Bobbie Prindle
of Sacramento and Betty Given of San Diego; and two grandsons.
The Masonic services will be conducted by Chaplain Charles Alexander, Ted
Meriam will offer a personal tribute. Entombment will take place at Chico
Mausoleum. Contributions maybe made to the Alzheimers Association in care
of Van Hook Funeral Chapel which is handing the arrangements.
