> Hello everyone,
As you may or may not know, this fall, FGS is holding its Annual Convention
in Ontario, CA. Here is the link: http://www.fgs.org/2002conf/FGS-2002.htm I
hope to see MANY of you there! It is a terrific environment and since it is
in our own state, we might as well take advantage and try to meet each other
in person! I think Richard is speaking, but he will have to fill you in on
that! If enough of us are going, perhaps we could "do lunch"
As of last Spring, at the NGS Conference in Portland, I had decided it would
be absolutely wonderful to get the word out about the USGenWeb Project to
the public. They were distinctly absent at the NGS Conference. I envisioned
an area in the Vendors room where USGW would have magazine racks for every
state, with brochures regarding what every county site in the Project had to
offer researchers.
A large part of the reason I agreed to let myself be nominated to the USGW
Advisory Board was to position myself to accomplish this goal..... wellllll,
amazing what you can learn in just a few months!
I now know it will be virtually impossible to accomplish my first vision
(though, I still hope it will become a reality eventually). Meanwhile, I
have scaled back my idea and am concentrating on two things:
1) to get (at least) brochures made up for every state in our SW/SC Region
2) to get brochures set up for every county in California in time for the
conference
Richard gave me permission to make up a sample California Brochure. I have
set up a website with sample state brochures and county brochures here:
http://www.cagenweb.com/marin/USGW/linksmenu.htm - there is even a sample
National Brochure...
Brochures can be made up using Word and a 3 column table or simply by using
the "format"/"columns" feature in Word. You will note the format is pretty
simple to follow and most of the info can be copied and pasted right off
your website!
If any of you have made up brochures, would you please email them to me???
We are intending to take one copy of each brochure to display, then we will
have a copy machine to make duplicates for anyone who wishes them to keep
the costs down (as I will be paying for this out of my own pocket). This is
not yet an officially sanctioned USGW effort.....
If I do not hear from you, please do not be surprised if you hear from me
with a Word attachment made up by me for your county I really want us
to shine in our own state conference!!!
All help greatly appreciated if any of you get "hooked" on making brochures!
Thanks so much!
