Hi Earl,
Some people when they were discharged from service filed a copy of their
discharge papers at the circuit clerks office in the county where they
lived. This is called a D-214 form and they ask for ID (such as a drivers
license) and your relationship to the vet since these military records have
the vets social security number on it. I didn't have to fill out a form but
the vet did have to file the form. I got one for my cousin because he
couldn't get one from the federal records as his fathers was destroyed in a
fire. Hope this might help someone.
