Can anyone tell me how I would go about looking for information on an
ancestor who ran for public office? My great-great-grandfather, Thomas Cain,
ran for both County Treasurer and State Senator in Kansas. Unfortunately, I
don't know exactly when -- I suspect it was in the late 1800s. From what
I've read in his obituary, I don't think he actually won the offices -- at
least not State Senator -- but I'm hoping I could learn more about him if I
knew where to look for information on his campaign. I'm hoping to avoid
looking through every single newspaper during that era. Any ideas would be
appreciated.
