RANKIN, Bertha M. Parents, Karl Hermann and Emelia Martha (Wegner) Hein. Born, St. Louis, Mo. Married, Edward Elmer RANKIN (deceased) Sept., 1916....She came to Kern County in 1913 and was engaged in private nursing from then until 1916. In that year she moved to Walkers Basin and was in the cattle raising business until 1923. In 1918 she purchased the A.N. TOWNE Ranch, Weedpatch, which included all of Section 19. In 1923 she took over management of the Towne Ranch and has been engaged in general farming and management since that time. In 1935 she sold to Kern County the site of the present Arvin Migratory Labor Camp. As a member of the Kern County Water Commission she was responsible for securing a Water Consulting Engineer for Kern County in February, 1938. She was a member of the Conservation Committee of the Kern County Chamber of Commerce, 1934 to 1939 and member of the Weedpatch Subordinate Grange No. 571; Kern County Farm Bureau.
