The Nevada MacKay you mention was born in Dublin, Ireland about 1835 died in 1902. He first came to New York then to the California Gold Country in 1851. In 1859 he arrived on the Comstock, which is Virginia City, Nevada. He was one of the owners of the biggest mine on the Comstock, the Consolidated Virginia. He made his fortune here. He went on to lay the first Trans Pacific Cable. Since he was instrumental in founding the University of Nevada you can contact them and the MacKay School of Mines at UNR for more information. You can get about anything on John MacKay via Internet. He was the most famous person on the Comstock He still has family in the area. Regards, Don Ayer, Virginia City, Nevada
