RALPH EDWARD MC CABE 1924-2003
Ralph Edward McCabe of Ridgecrest, was born April 25, 1924 in Kiefer, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Thursday February 20, 2003 at Ridgecrest Memorial Hospital. He was 78.
McCabe was born in Kiefer, Oklahoma, the youngest of 10 children. His father worked in the oil fields. They later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, when jobs became scarce and McCabe took a job to help support his family during the great depression. In 1940 the family relocated to Los Angeles.
McCabe married Yvonne Rogers in 1954. The following year, they moved to Ridgecrest, where he took a job with the Trona Railway, where he worked for 27 years. McCabe retired in 1982 as a comptroller and vice president of accounting and operations.
McCabe was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, spending one year as Grand Knight and many years as their financial secretary. Ralph served in the Navy/Coast Guard during World War II, and remained in the Naval Reserves for 20 years. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Cal State Bakersfield and a Masters degree in Humanities from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Yvonne McCabe and his four devoted children: Colleen McCabe of Windsor, Kevin McCabe and his wife Marcy of McKinleyville, Tim McCabe and his wife Robyn of Woodbridge, and Erin McCabe-Moss and her husband Cameron of Coto de Caza. Ralph was blessed with five grandchildren Ashleigh McCabe-Inman Day and husband John, Nick McCabe-Inman, Bradley McCabe, Sienna McCabe, and Adyn McCabe. His brother Gerald McCabe survives him as do many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Beaulah and Joseph McCabe, his sisters Flora, Lucille, Mary and Helen, and his brothers Robert, John Bernard and Thomas and his son Jaime Bruce.
Ralph enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending time with his family, playing the piano and his devotion to the Catholic Church. McCabe loved his family, where he was the shining star of our constellation and he loved life, where he set an example for those of us who learned to love it from him. He will be forever in our hearts.
