Bill Arnold
Willing Willie "Bill" Arnold died Friday at 77 of emphysema and heart disease complications. Services for the retired carpenter contractor will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Pentecostal Church of God, 1435 North Downs in Ridgecrest. The Reverend Archie Miller will officiate.
Arnold, named Willing Willie by his mother, who died when he was five, came to Ridgecrest 34 years ago from Denver, Colorado.
As a carpenter-bricklayer, he participated in the building of many of the area businesses, such as K & R Market and Medical Arts Pharmacy. He also participated in the building of the first two-storey structure in Ridgecrest, the Crest Apartments.
Born in Ottumwa, Iowa, Arnold was proud of his given Christian names, which appear on his birth certificate, according to his wife, Marie I. Arnold, who survives him.
He is also survived by his daughter, Maxine Sheppard of Denver, Colorado; by a nephew, Oliver Llewellyn of Ridgecrest; and by three grandchildren. Graveside services will take place Sunday in Denver, Colorado.
