RUTH HELEN FARRINGTON

Ruth Helen Farrington died in her sleep June 20, 2003 at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Ridgecrest.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 28, at 10 am at First Baptist Church. Dr. Ray Teston will officiate. Her ashes will be spread at Desert Memorial Park following the service.

Mrs. Farrington was born July 28, 1919 in Lenden, Texas to Harry and Ellen Martin. After high school she worked in her mother's cafe. Being a griendly person, she made lots of friends.

She followed her brothers to California, where she met and married Harvey W. Farrington in 1955. Living on the Navy Ordnance Test Station, she raised a son with her husband of 33 years.

She involved herself in church life with the All Faith Chapel at NOTS. In 1959 she and others chartered the Calvary Baptist Church of Ridgecrest. Through the years at FBC, she was a faithful servant of the Lord, working to provide many ministries.

In the latter years of her life, she was the compassionate correspondent. She would send letters and cards or call on the phone to family, members of the church and friends when they had occasions of happiness or grief.

Her most loved hobby was gardening and flowers. In 1958 she and other ladies of the valley established the original Oasis Garden Club. She also served as a state chair for the California Garden Clubs.

After her husband's retirement in 1982, the Harringtons traveled for 14 years in their Airstream trailer, building friendships around the United States, Canada and Mexico.

She is survived by her son David Farrington and wife Lois of Maui, brothers Fred Martin of Northridge and George Martin of Inyokern, sister Ruby Jo Rabe of Baton Rouge, La., niece Terry and husband James Wojciehowski of Ridgecrest, and other dear and faithful friends who helped look after her in her last months.

As with some who have been so blessed, she had friends from the east to the west to the north to the south. To God be the glory.

The family requests that contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 1350 S. Downs, Ridgecrest, CA 93555.

Arrangements were provided by Holland & Lyons Mortuary.

Submitted by the family of Ruth Farrington.
