SYLVIA BESSER 1919-2003

Sylvia Besser passed away in Los Angeles on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003. She was 84.
Funeral services were held Dec. 16.
Besser was born May 23, 1919. She and her husband Dr. Eli Besser, who was a chemical engineer at NOTS and their children lived in China Lake from 1950 to 1960.
In the early 1950s Besser started Family Service in China Lake. Family Service evenually matured into the Desert Counseling Clinic serving the Indian Wells Valley. For many years, DCC presented an award in her name. She also worked as a school psychologist at China Lake and in Los Angeles.
Besser is survived by a sister Bette Karsh of Los Angeles, son Jeff Besser of San Diego, daughter Judy Spiegel of Ridgecrest, and daughter Karen Besser of Los Angeles.
Contributions may be made in her memory to the Linus Pauling Institute, Oregon State University, 571 Winegar Hall, Corvallis OR 97331-6512.
