JOAN BEVERLY JOHANBOEKE 1937-2004

Longtime Ridgecrest resident Joan Beverly Johanboeke passed away at her home Saturday, Mar. 6, 2004 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was 66.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Mar. 12 at 1 pm at Holland & Lyons Chapel. The Rev. Cliff Murray of the Foursquare Gosepl Church will officiate.
Mrs. Johanboeke was born Nov. 2, 1937 in Chicago, Ill. She spent her early life in Tucson, Ariz., and graduated from Tucson High School in 1955. After several years at the University of Arizona she joined the Research Department at NOTS, China Lake. In 1958 she married Roy Johanboeke who also worked at NOTS.
After rearing their two children, she went to work for the China Lake school district in the mid 1970s and retired as the school secretary at Richmond Special Education in 1994.
She enjoyed reading, watching her grandchildren grow up and walking along shoreline and ocean beaches. She was also an excellent cook.
She is survived by her husband Roy Johanboeke of Ridgecrest, daughter Jean Johanboeke of Ridgecrest, son Ronald Johanboeke of Middleburg, Fla., sisters Barbara Young of Van Dalia, Ohio and Patricia Young of Tucson, Ariz., grandchildren Candace and Angela of Florida and Kyle of Ridgecrest.
The family requests that donations be made to the Optimal Hospice Foundation, 1315 Boughton Dr., Bakersfield, CA 93308.
