Dear Donna:

Question, was Ed Vaughn also associated with the Kern County Schools? My dad said one of my gg uncles was the first Kern County Supt of schools.

My gg grandfather was Thomas C. Vaughn, he married Berrilla Cole, and came to Calif in 1852. My ggg grandparents are Jesse Cole and Aljailina Wheeler. They were married in Shelby County IN in 1826.

I found in the LDS website (www.familysearch.org) that Edwin Vaughn was born in 1 April, 1848 in Pike Co MO, and died in Kernville, CA on 16 Dec, 1908. He was married to Mahala Louisa Curtis in San Francisco and died in Kernville on 7 July, 1927.

A while back, I found Thomas C Vaughn in the 1852 census in Napa Ca, where they made their first stop in CA. Next to his name was Berrilla (Cole) Vaughn. Next to her name were the names of Graton Vaughn, age 19, born in MO, M. Hayes, age 17, born in Indiana, Edwin Vaughn, age 6, born in MO, and Wesley Vaughn, age 3, born in MO. the next names were the Popes and Woodens, which means that the Vaughns settled somewhere near the present day Pope and Wooden Valleys, which are east of Napa Valley. I have more info, too much to e mail, so pls let me know if you want me to mail it to you.
Best regards
Scott
