Richard "Max" Barnett
Nov. 15 1919 – Aug. 13, 2004
Max Barnett peacefully passed away at his home in Tehachapi on Friday, Aug.13. His wife and two children were at his side when he died.
Max was born in Belle Fourche, S.D., on Nov. 15, 1919. His family moved to Colorado when he was 3 years old. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1937. Shortly thereafter, he relocated to Southern California and worked as an aircraft mechanic at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica.
Max met his wife Jacquie and was married in 1947. They lived in the Los Angeles area and owned and operated an automotive repair shop for many years. Max retired in 1978 and he and his wife purchased a horse boarding facility in the Los Feliz Griffith Park area, which they managed with much enjoyment.
Max and his family have been residents of Tehachapi since 1988, where he enjoyed his retirement years.
Max is best remembered as an intelligent, strong, kind, gentle and genuine man. He loved horses, western art and books, hunting and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jacquie, son Richard, daughter Linda and husband Ray Lackey, grandson Ryan Lackey, all of Tehachapi; and many nieces, nephews and friends throughout the United States.
To honor Max's request of no services, the family held a private memorial. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
