Fatal accident Unreported for Twelve hours

A 1956 four-door sedan left the roadway about 1.10 miles west of Cameron Canyon Road on the Tehachapi-Willow Springs Road at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Friday November 8th, ejecting both the driver, Wm. R. Smith, 34, and his passenger, Frank H. Jeffries, 47, both of Bakersfield, and the wreck was unnoticed until an employee of the California Portland Cement Co. saw it the next morning on his way to work. The California Highway Patrol in Mojave was notified and investigating officers found the passenger, Jeffries dead and the driver seriously injured.
The injured driver was taken to the Tehachapi Valley Hospital by the Stickel Ambulance' service and he told the officers that he came over a hill and failed to negotiate a sharp left turn. The car was totally demolished in the ensuing roll-over.
The victim, Mr. Jeffries was taken to the Stickel Mortuary where funeral arrangements are pending.
