Archie Houck Taken in death
Archie Houck, 74, retired railroader of Mojave, passed away Monday, July 16 in Pearblossom. He had stopped at a service station when he felt ill and death followed from a heart attack.
Mr. Houck was born Dec. 5, 1888 and started railroading as a switchman in 1910 at Shawnee, Oklahoma. Later he worked for Santa Fe in Barstow, and came to Mojave in 1920. From then until 1948 he worked for Southern Pacific, retiring as general yardmaster.
After retiring Mr. Houck and his wife, who preceded him in death some years ago, moved to San Bernardino.
At the time of death, he was making his home with son Jack Houck and daughter-in-law Creone at 16071 I Street.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Mojave Community Church with interment in Mojave Cemetery.
