BENNY JOE STURGEON 1942-2005

Born in Pitcher,Okla. on Feb. 25, 1942 Benny Joe Sturgeon moved to Ridgecrest in 1945. He attended Burroughs High School where he met the love of his life Diane Zurn whom he married in 1958.
He graduated in 1959 and that same year celebrated the birth of his first of six children. During his life Benny worked for several local contractors and eventually retired from a Federal government position.
Although Benny enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing and mining for gold, he most loved spending time with his family. "Pop" as he was known to his loved ones would always initiate a poker game at family events.
Benny passed away at the UCLA Medical Center on Nov. 25, 2005 from complications to viral encephlitis.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Emma Sturgeon as well as a sister Betty Russell.
Benny is survived by his wife Diane and six children and their spouses: Kim Sturgeon, Kelly and Dave Boss, Jack and Suzy Sturgeon, and John Sturgeon all of Ridgecrest, Keri and Bret Catcott of San Diego and Jody and Andy Morton of Bakersfield.
He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as a brother Billy Jack Sturgeon and his wife Charlotte, and in-laws Kenny and Linda Zurn, dorrine and Max Hess, Bonnie Gregory and Pat Harris all of Ridgecrest.
A viewing will take place at Holland & Lyons Mortuary on Wednesday Nov. 30, 2005 from 2 to 4:30 pm to be immediately followed by a Rosary in Benny's honor at St. Ann Catholic Church from 5 to 6:30 pm. Benny funeral and burial service will be held on Thursday Dec. 1, 2005 at St. Ann Catholic Church at 10 am with the Rev. Robert Gamel presiding.

A duplicate obit also appeared in the November 30, 2005 edition of the Daily Independent.

BENNY JOE STURGEON

Benny Joe Sturgeon died Nov. 25, 2005 at UCLA Medical Center. He was 63.
Visitation will be Wednesday Nov. 30 from 2-4:30 pm at Holland & Lyons Chapel. A rosary will be held on that afternoon at 5 pm at St. Ann's Catholic Church with visitation following until 6:30 pm. The funeral will be held Thursday Dec. 1 at 10 am at St. Ann's with the Rev. Robert E. Gamel officiating.

He also survived by his brother Billy Jack and Char Sturgeon of Ridgecrest and in-laws Kenny and Linda Zurn, Dorrine and Max Hess, Bonnie Gregory and Pat Harris all of Ridgecrest. Also surviving him are 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at Desert Memorial Park, with arrangements provided by Holland & Lyons Mortuary.
