MARIA ELIADIS BROWN 1925-2005

Maria E. Brown, 80, of Ridgecrest passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Nov. 22, 2005 in Lancaster.
Mrs. Brown was born July 30, 1925 in Cairo, Egypt to Evdoxia Tsitsimbidis and Stavros Eliadis. She had one brother and four sisters. She was of Greek decent and attended both Greek and French schools in Cairo and she spoke many languages.
She met and married Benjamin Brown in 1949 and moved to Saudi Arabia to live while Ben worked for the Arabian American Oil Company - ARMACO. In 1952 they moved to the United States and settled in California.
She said that the roudest day of her life was when she became a United States citizen and was sworn in as the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. In 1956 Maria and Benjamin became the proud parents of their daughter Leslie Anne while living in Los Angeles. Maria was deeply devoted to both her husband and her daughter.
ben, Maria and Leslie moved to China Lake in January 1964 when Ben got a civil service job. They lived in base housing until the house that Ben built in Ridgecrest Heights was ready to move into in 1976.
Maria often referred to these years as the best years of her life. She had many fond memories of the gold ol' days at China Lake.
Maria worked for the Sierra Sands School District for many years as a yard duty teacher and a teacher's aide. She loved all of the students she had throughout the years and would always give them a special hug when they would recognize her years later.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Benjamin, two infant sons, her brother Dimitri and her sisters Roxy and Fanny.
She will be missed by her daughter Leslie Anne Brown and her husband Jackie L. Brown of Ridgecrest, her grandson Benjamin and William Brockwell and granddaughters Lisa Boutang and Laura Howard.
Maria is survived by her sister Sophie of Bakersfield and her sister Helen of Wisconsin and numerous very special nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A graveside memorial service to celebrate Maria's life will be held Saturday Dec. 3, 2005 at noon at the Desert Memorial Park in Ridgecrest. Brent Hedman of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate.
