Richard (Dick) Johnston, a longtime resident and businessman in Mojave, passed away Oct. 24 at his Tehachapi home surrounded by his family after a 15-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Coffeyville, Kansas, on Oct. 6, 1938, he moved to California in 1955.
Dick lived in Mojave for 41 years and was employed at Monte’s Auto Parts from 1961 to 1990 when he and his wife Betty became owners of the Lancaster store. They retired in 2000 and moved to Tehachapi in 2002.
Dick is survived by his wife Betty, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just nine days prior to his passing,
He is also survived by his son Steven and wife Tracey of Mojave and their daughters Tracey, Steffany, and Cassidy; his son Barry, of Bakersfield; brothers John and Everett Blakslee of Coffeyville, Kansas; brother Dale Blakslee and his wife Jean of Grove, Oklahoma; and a sister, Ruby Elkenberry, of Leoti, Kansas.
Dick was preceded in death by nine other brothers and sisters, and leaves many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Lancaster Masonic Lodge No. 437 presided over services at Wood Family Funeral Service in Tehachapi on Monday. Interment followed in Tehachapi Westside Public Cemetery.
The family thanks all friends, family, acquaintances, doctors, and the nursing staff of Antelope Valley Cancer Center for the support given to Dick during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
