MELVIN RICHARD McALLISTER 1937-2006

On Tuesday Sept 12, 2006 in Ridgecrest Melvin Richard McAllister, 68, joined the Lord, his mother Mildred E. McAllister, father Emmett H. McAllister and sister Carol Cofer-Duffney.
Richard was born Dec. 2, 1937 in Little Rock, Ark. He grew up in Arkansas and Missouri and graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City, Mo. He joined the Navy and retired from the Navy after 25 1/2 years of service as a Master Chief. He then worked for Comarco until he became a logistic engineer for the Department of the Navy at China Lake where he completed a second retirement.
Richard is survived by his wife Janie L. McAllister of Ridgecrest, daughter Debbie Nelson and son-in-law Jeff, son Greg McAllister and daughter-in-law Jennifer, grandchildren Danielle Lucero and husband Ben, Justin McAllister and significant other Heather, Krista Blackman, Noah Blackman, great grandson Jymie Lucero, one unborn grandchild and one unborn great great grandchild all of Ridgecrest, brothers Dale McAllister of Kansas City, Mo., Jim McAllister of Franklin, N.C., David McAllister of Clinton, Mo., Donald McAllister of Toms River, N.J., and sisters Patricia Orvis of Ava, Mo., Shirley Jackson of Clinton, Mo., Mary Haden of Overland Park, Kan., Martha Henne of Sacramento and Linda West of Belton, Mo. And he was blessed with a remarkable amount of nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held Saturday Sept 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 at Holland & Lyons Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm at Crossroads Community Church, 235 N. China Lake Blvd to be followed by a military graveside service. A reception will be held at Crossroads Community Church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
