My father used to live in Riverdale and surrounding areas. His response to your question is:

"I don't think Hanford had more than one High School in 1947-48 and Porter St. is not close to it. However there is a Jr. Hi. close by. In fact it is only about a block and a half from the end of Porter St. And also there is an elementary school a few blocks beyond that. The railroad tracks at the end of Porter is the Santa Fe main line south to sourthern Ca. Teh Jr. Hi is Woodrow Wilson and the elementary is Jefferson Elementary. All of this information courtesy of AAA city map of Hanford I picked up at the AAA office in Vallejo when I was out today. I hope this will be of some help to the lady. I was really surprised to find that the city has grown so large. There are now twelve schools in the town, three of which are High Schools."
