OBITUARY:
Clarence Courier, February 25, 1954
Funeral services for Mrs. Hugh Caldwell, who passed away at her home near
Leonard Tuesday afternoon at 5:05 o'clock after an extended illness, were
held this afternoon (Thursday) at 2 o'clock from the Clarence Christian
church. Rev. J. L. Shoemaker of Shelbina officiated with the pastor, Lyle
Armstrong assisting.

Mrs. Caldwell was born Della Lewis on November 9, 1874, the daughter of the
late Aaron and Mrs. Rosa Conrad Lewis of south of town. She was a saleswoman
for many years in the Sears department store here where her friends were
legion. She was married to Hugh Caldwell in August, 1918, and the home was
established on a farm near Leonard where she spent the remainder of her life.
She was a member of the Christian church and was a charter member of the
local Order of the Eastern Star, receiving her 50-year pin last year.

Survivors include her husband, a sister, Mrs. Sam Sanner of Clarence, a
brother, Ed Lewis of Kalispell, Montana, and nieces and nephews. She was
preceded by her parents, two sisters, Mrs. Willis Cross and Mrs. Porter
Robuck of Clarence and a brother, M. H. Lewis of Texas.

Casket bearers were great nephews, Sammy Wood, Billy Wood, Jack Wood, Jerry
Wood, William Whaley and Clinton Barr. The body rested at the Barkelew
Funeral Chapel from Wednesday afternoon until the funeral hour. Graveside
prayers and interment were in Maplewood cemetery.
