Paul,

How did you make out? I and my elderly friend wandered around for
some time. Then news came that the Long Island Railroad would open up in the
early afternoon. We didn't know whether to cross the Brooklyn Bridge to
catch the LIRR in Downtown Brooklyn or head north to Penn Station. We were
heading south toward the bridge when I saw people going down the subway
steps. The F Line was back in service ( This was about 2:00, ). So we took
it to 34th Street.
The outside of Penn Station was lined with thousands of people and when
word came that they were allowing people on, the crowds calmly proceeded to
the entrance. We got on the train to Valley Stream but had to wait a twenty
minutes before it took off. I guess we were a bit lucky in getting out of
Manhattan because one guy who worked across the street from WTC said he had
to walk from that area uptown and across the 59th Street Bridge and finally
caught the LIRR in Woodside.
Oh, I did head to St. Vincent's to donate blood. The line for O negative
was extremely long. The one for O+ was even longer, but the line that I
would have gotten on went clear around the block. It was amazing at how fast
they had organized the blood donation lines. I was going to get on line, but
one of the staff members wanted people to go to Columbia on 52nd Street.
That ws too far for me to walk with my friend.

This definitely is a very sad day for America.

Mario.
