- --------------------------------------------------------------------
Surname: Barry, Rochon
Seeking any information about Edwina Barry who, prior to her death on 7
Jul 1988 at age 102 in
UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, was the oldest living vaudevillian.
Edwina, who worked as a
librarian in Miami during WW II under her married name of Rochon, spent
a period of time in
Shanghai in the late '40's, departing just before the communist takeover
in 1949. Sometime after
her return to the U.S., possibly immediately, she settled in the Los
Angeles, possibly because she
had a brother, Jack Barry, living in the area. In L.A., she worked as a
Navy librarian. Eventually
she entered a retirement home. I would appreciate any information from
city directories or other
sources relative to when she arrived in L.A., where she lived, the
location of the Navy library
where she worked, the retirement home in which she later resided, the
place of her burial, and any
information regarding Jack Barry, her brother, including his date of
death, occupation, and place of
residence. Jack Barry was already living in L.A. by Jan., 1940.
